The
Centennial Hall, The
Japanese Garden and
Oder River Cruise
Visit the Centennial Hall - an outstanding example of modernist architecture – a
UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our tour begins with a visit to the Centennial Hall, which at the time of its construction was the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world (the axis of the structure – 152m, the dome diameter – 65m, the total height – 42m ). Still impressive nowadays, the hall was designed by an eminent German architect – Max Berg. You will be amazed at the ingenuity of the form as well as a pioneering use of crude concrete which seems surprisingly light and expressive. Having watched a ten-minute documentary on the Centennial Hall we take a pleasant stroll to the Japanese Garden where you will see as many as 30 plant species indigenous to Japan. The final attraction of the tour is a cruise down the Oder River which enables you to enjoy the spectacular panorama of the oldest part of the city – Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island).
