bridges...
Not normally interesting as a general subject, bridges are particularly relevant in wroclaw due to the sheer number of them. Surrounded by the Odra river, Wroclaw is also known as the city of 100 bridges because, yes, you guesed it, there is a total of 100 in and around the city. In fact, there is even more now. A word of advice. When arranging to meet someone avoid saying ' i'll meet you by the bridge', or the church for that matter as you are likely to have a long wait!!
Market Square
Wroclaw's Rynek, or old market square, is the main point of the city centre (Stare Miasto) and is in fact the largest in Poland. This, of course overturn the conception that Krakow holds this title. We are spekky so we do our homework!! On the Rynek you will find many bars, shops and restaurants which surround the Medieval Town Hall (Ratusz), probably the most interesting work of architecture in the city. To stand in the centre of this spectacular arena is to stand in the very heart of bohemia.... and when you have seen enough you can always pop into Macdonalds for some plastic food !!
Salt Square
Just beyond the Rynek, you will see salt square, a medieval mini market square which is now mainly populated by flower sellers. Smells great in the summer.
University
A place where people go to learn stuff!! Very interesting old buildings which are spread around the city. Especially designed for young people with no money.
Ostrów Tumski If you are into your churches and bridges then this will be right up your street. Ostrow Tumski is an island owned by one of the biggest real estate corporation in the world, the Catholic church! In the centre is the impressive Cathederal which really is picturesque. Close by, overlooked by the recently completed Jana Pawla II (Pope John Paul II) hotel, are the Beautiful Botanical Gardens which are home to some truely amazing flora and fauna. Often you will find a jazz band playing outside the arburetum which houses the more delicate tropical varieties. Ostrow Tumski can only be described as romantic. A quiet stroll around here with a potential sweetheart would surley ensure sucess.... Get in !!

Monkeys and that !
Public Hall and Pergola
This Monsterous building looks like it is about to leave for Mars at any moment. It is situated in scenic splendour right beside a lake which is a very popular spot in the summer time. The building is used for large sports events and concerts. In the grounds is a large pergola with trailing plants and outside the building is a large phallic sculpture known as `the needle ` which stretches for what seems like miles and is even more sci fi than the main building. Not to be missed.
When picturing a polish city, you may automatically think of grey buildings, freezing weather and cabbage!! Think again. One visit to wroclaw will leave you wondering why you never heard of it before, and with a strange feeling that you must return soon.
As the capital of the Wielkopolska region (which literally translates to big or great Poland) and one of the oldest cities, Poznan has long been a well known centre for business, trade and education, regularly hosting large international conferences and trade fairs. A large student population provides a regular stream of skilled workers to meet the ever increasing demands of the many large businesses that have become established here and the whole city in general has a feel of corporate professionalism often associated with much larger cities.
